Come and listen to experts explaining the history of our mountains, the mines and their minerals, and the lasting influence of minerals on man through the centuries. The Mineral Exchange / Market Started in 1975 by Michel Legros and other passionate glass cutters, the market was an immediate success here in the heart of Europe’s greatest natural mineral site. The minerals from the Oisans mines are highly prized for their quality, rarity and purity. Men have searched for rock crystals in the Oisans region from the earliest of times. In 1678 a local priest commercialised them for the first time, and the 18th century was to be, with the opening of the Royal Fonderie at Allemont, the golden age for gold and silver mining in the six valleys of the Oisans.
